Foundations, Corporations
When you give your contribution to The Foundation for
Health, you make it possible for the scientists of the
“One of One for Science Initiative” to work
in enterprising new ways. You bring new knowledge to
the most remote areas of the Americas. You spark innovation
in public health here at home and the countries of the
Americas. Most of all, you help find solutions to the
most serious threats to our health and safety. We hope
that after proving that these solutions are effective
in the Americas we could help other continents.
All gifts make a difference. You can make a gift right
now, online, through our secure server using your credit

Give your contribution by area of work of the
Foundation
El Lic. Jaime Paz Zamora, former President of Bolivia
1989-1992 concern for the future health and safety of
his family and Bolivia compelled him to become involved
with the Fundacion Boliviana para la Salud (FunSalud)
in 2003. In early 2003, through the Segundo Centenario
Foundation, Paz Zamora pledged $US 5,000 to buy computers
for the National Institute of Public Health ( INSP)
in Sucre Bolivia, to continue work in Chagas Disease
in that area of Bolivia.

Like Lic. Paz Zamora, you can help INSP scientists fight
threats to health and safety. All gifts – regardless
of size – are important to the Foundation, allowing
the Foundation to implement a wide variety of programs
with INSP, CENESASUR and other health centers. You may
designate your gift as “unrestricted,” providing
general support for areas of top priority or you can
make your gift “restricted,” going toward
a specific project or fund. The following are some options
for designating your gift:
General Support
Ongoing unrestricted support allows the Foundation to
provide services for INSP that might not be possible
through other channels of funding. When you provide
general or “unrestricted” support for the
Foundation, your gift helps fund the highest priorities
of INSP and CENESASUR. Unrestricted gifts are critical
for the Foundation to help our projects attain its vision
of healthy people in a healthy world through prevention.
Programmatic Support
Some individuals or organizations wish to invest in
a specific programmatic area within the National Institutes
of Health of the Americas. These gifts typically help
defray all or some of the costs of carrying out a scientific
study, an information campaign or a training program.
Often funding partners become engaged early on in a
project to clearly understand its objectives or participate
in the program design. Several partners may jointly
fund a program to provide adequate resources to ensure
its successful completion. To find out about contributing
to a particular program, call the Executive Office,
404- 414 1988.
Examples of Program and Projects where you
could contribute are:
ONE AND ONE FOR SCIENCE:
CENTER FOR EPIDEMIOLOGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH
(CENESASUR)

Restricted Funds
We hope to have in the future some restricted funds
established to provide a permanent source of support
for a specific program or activity at our Institutes
or projects. The Foundation currently has one restricted
fund that you may choose to support. To learn more about
contributing to the Foundation restricted funds, call
the Executive Office, 404-414 1988.
Emergency Preparedness & Response Fund
Following the events of September 11, 2001, and the
many natural disasters in the Americas region, the countries
of the Americas need support to respond to special emergency
preparedness and response to help Latin American Countries
with immediate resources in times of crisis. Through
the Fund, FunHealth will be able to immediately purchase
necessary supplies and make hires without having to
go through lengthy government procurement and hiring
processes.
Other Ways to Contribute
The Foundation development staff can assist you in determining
what kind of gift might be right for you. Some options
for giving to FunHealth include:
Planned Gifts: Planned gifts include
a variety of gifts with special tax advantages, including
gifts through your estate (bequests).
Gifts of Securities: Gifts of appreciated assets may
be made outright or paid in installments. Outright gifts
of appreciated securities entitle you to an income-tax
charitable deduction for the fair market value of the
securities. If you have held the appreciated assets
for more than one year, you do not have to pay capital
gains tax, which you would have to pay if you sold the
asset.
In-Kind Gifts: A variety of opportunities
exist for in-kind donations to the Foundation. In the
past, in-kind gifts have included equipment for the
National Institute of Public Health and travel vouchers.
Memorial/Honor Gifts: If you wish to
remember a friend or loved one who has passed away,
consider a memorial gift to the Foundation. Or if you
wish to honor a colleague, friend or family member,
you can make a tribute gift to the Foundation in that
person’s name.
Matching Gifts: You can double, or
in some cases triple, your gift to the Foundation by
matching it through your employer or your spouse’s
employer. Check with your personnel department to see
if your company has a matching gift program.
Special Gifts from Private or Public Employees:
Employees can contribute to the Foundation through the
Campaigns. Conducted by the director of our programs
or projects each winter, the Campaigns offersl employees
a way to easily and conveniently make a contribution
to the charity of their choice. Each year, some employees
support the Foundation through the Campaigns.
